March

Breath deeply. It's March.
Which means two things: you survived another winter and spring. is. coming.

And this is me we are talking about here so...it also means St. Patrick's Day!
I have some new favorites for this, the most Irish of Months, so here is my 2016 St. Paddy's day post:

1. Circle of Friends:  I read this book for the first time last week. I have watched this movie (Minnie Driver, so so good) many, many times over the years. But last year my cousin Brig commented on my instagram like, "have you read it?!" And I had not read it. So I had to read it.
100% honesty, no exaggeration (which I am wont to do considering my heritage):
this is now one of my favorite books.  Like top 5.
It is lovely and well written and I cannot say enough how much I loved it.
READ IT.

2. "Sing Street": Saw this at Sundance this year. Have not stopped talking about it since January. I think it gets released in the US on April 15th, so a little late for St. Paddy's, but who cares!
See it immediately.
And remember: YOU'RE NEVER GONNA GO IF YOU DON'T GO NOW!
YOU'RE NEVER GONNA GO IF YOU DON'T GO NOWWWW!
...And now I'm weeping.

3. Irish Butter Cookies: Enough said.

4. Brooklyn: I mean obviously. It think this comes out on DVD on March 17th so, awesome right?
I also read this novel, and while it is good--the movie is better. Why, you ask?
Two words that I don't know how to pronounce: Saoirse Ronan.
I've seen it twice. I will purchase it immediately.
Listen to it and weep: Frankie's Song

5. Get outside: you know what just feels Irish? A nice brisk walk on a cool, sunny spring day. Sometimes I listen to my "irish and maybe a little scottish" spotify playlist
and pretend I'm hiking the Ring of Kerry.
It really makes those walks with Caesar,
while I'm waiting for him to poop, so much more epic.

Check out my older posts for more St. Paddy's day fun: here and here

And enjoy this picture of James in Dublin:

Life lately: finished another swim season #gotimpview, James' 29th birthday was a low-key & relaxing success, and Pride & Prejudice & Zombies was so very bad (but at least we will always have the trailer).

  1. I LOVED Brooklyn so much! I read the book too but, the movie was defiantly better and so heartwarming. Costco has clover shaped pasta right now. I thought of you when I saw it and wanted to let you know! Can't wait for your Irish pics.

  2. I hadn't heard of the movie Brooklyn until a few hours before you posted this, when I looked up the movies playing at the dollar theater. Guess I'll have to check it out!
