Why Sadie?

So you think you can dance? Well that's great. But do you know why this blog is titled Life as a Sadie? I'll tell you why:

I don't know.

That was a Fiddler on the Roof joke. The end.

The reason for the blog title is easy: I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, like Barbra Streisand.

As I'm sure many of you know, Barbra's greatest role was that of Fanny Brice in the musical Funny Girl (later reprised in Funny Lady, not to be confused with Funny Face). There is a song from the musical titled "Sadie, Sadie". Please watch the following video for reference:

I'm just going to pause right here and say: If you have not seen Funny Girl YOU NEED TO STOP READING THIS RIGHT NOW AND GO WATCH IT.

Musicals have had a large impact on my life, especially this particular one. I watched this film quite a bit in my early years. It's possible it shaped my expectations of married life, we will never know for sure.

As a young married lady I noticed some parallels between myself and Sadie, Sadie married lady. For example: "I swear I'll do my wifely job, just sit at home become a slob". Cue my eating only potato chips and dark chocolate my first year of marriage while watching The Hills all day.

And thus the title of my blog was born.

By the way, James is the guy who made me a Sadie. We were married in August 2009 and he is better than Nicky Arnstein for these reasons:
1. He never judges my eating habits (not great at eating, I am the first to admit it),
2. He laughs at all my jokes (really great at joking, I am the first to admit it),
3. And he does not have a gambling addiction.

Here is a picture of us being weirdos on our wedding day:
