he is super great. he was riding his bike across the country this year- we got to see him on his way through utah this fall. we ate some really delicious indian food and talked about how he was living the dream. he listened to me complain about how hard teaching had been over garlic naan. now josh is in the middle of the most difficult time in his life.
yesterday, while he was riding his bike along the coast of south carolina he was hit from behind by a truck. the driver of the truck had been drinking. here is the update from troy (another brother in law- i have 5 of these. needless to say, it's super fun.) who flew out last night to be with him:
"I'm here at the hospital. He is still sedated. I let Josh know, in case he can hear, that I am here and that mom and dad will be here in a few hours. Nurse explained to me that he is initiating his own breathing but the machine assists in providing the proper pressure when he initiates a breath. He is very swollen but definitely recognizable.
His ICP (internal cerebral pressure) is still high due mostly to swelling but also internal bleeding. The internal bleeding likely won't subside soon but they monitor it to assure it doesn't increase"
we're worried and sad. we're thinking about him all day and waiting on news of his condition. i know james wishes he could get on a plane. i'm feeling silly for being so caught up with teaching in the fall that i didn't just let go enough and live in the moment. i'm mad because he was having the time of his life, he was right in the middle of it. he had never seemed happier. so why did this happen? and i just keep thinking of his fantastic taste in music.
if you want to see/learn more about josh's trip his website is here: twelvethousandmiles.com thanks to everyone who has called/texted/commented we appreciate it so much
